TechAgappe January- March 2019 Edition

I am privileged to place this 18th edition of the TechAgappe in the hands of our readers. With extreme satisfaction, I would like to state that this magazine is now being published regularly every three months. I am happy to note that we have more than 40,000 regular subscribers now, which includes most of the medical colleges, nursing colleges as well as the leading clinical laboratories of India.

This time, from the MD’s desk, we have an article on which Agappe’s CSR initiatives are depicted. This issue is dedicated to Thyroid disorders and includes three articles from three renowned health specialists. The first article is about an overview of the thyroid hormones and related disorders. The second article is authored by Dr. Chandra Mohan Batra, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, who has elaborated on the fetal and neonatal thyrotoxicosis. The third article in this series is from Dr. Sanjay Kalra, Bharti Hospital, Karnal who has explained the occurrence of hypoglycaemia in hypothyroidism.

This time we have included two life stories. The first story is to admire a former Air India cabin crew from Mumbai, who has conquered his thyroid cancer. The second story is to compliment a young woman model who has marvellously recovered from her thyroid cancer.

We have also included two interviews with eminent medical professionals. The first one is with Dr. Ambrish Mithal, Chairman and HOD of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Medanta, Gurgaon, who is a recipient of Padma Bhushan award and Dr. B. C Roy award. The second interview is with Dr. Barnali Das at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai. She is a member of the technical committee on Standardization of Thyroid Function Tests, constituted by the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC).

In this issue, we have also placed two technical articles. The first one is for helping diagnostic laboratories to be vigilant on certain unobserved factors in their routine blood analysis. The second technical write-up is on the basic details of haematology. We have introduced a new session called ‘King’s Voice’ from Agappe’s customer support, where we wish to clarify queries from our esteemed customers.

As usual, we have incorporated a few health tips for improving thyroid health and included a new session for hematology to enhance knowledge. We are happy to note that we are receiving a lot of letters from our satisfied readers, who encourage us to continue this endeavour. We thank them for their creative suggestions. I personally wish a happy new year to all our readers.

With warm personal regards and wishing a very happy reading.
